For some reason, people like to think that humans have greatly evolved in the past couple thousand years. Lo, we are so evolved, we are more open-minded and tolerant and intelligent and wonderful . . . .
For a little enlightenment on how just as wonderful, intelligent, and amazing human beings have been for multiple thousands of years, I present the following links.
- Internet Ancient History Sourcebook — tons of good stuff in here, thanks to Fordham University. I especially like “The Advice of an Akkadian Father to His Son, c. 2200 BCE” “Do not marry a prostitute” is timeless advice, face it, “Pretty Woman” be damned.
- History.com . . . Cave Paintings thought to contain pre-historic images of female genitalia. What, you thought we invented sex in 1960? Stop watching so much Mad Men.
- The Guardian UK . . . Grandparents were the key to early humanity’s success. This is why every mother craves grandchildren. It’s the ultimate evolutionary advance.
- Lascaux. Here’s a few rocks and some sticks. Now YOU do it.
